Want to Retain Employees? Consider Coaching!
I’ve been a coach for nearly 10 years. For the last 5 years I’ve been coaching in organizations. What I can tell you for sure is that coaching works! It’s a great tool not only for improving talent performance, but also for talent retention.
Consider these stats from the Ranstad RiseSmart Worklife Coaching Report 2022: 97% of surveyed employees working with a coach said they are somewhat or very satisfied with their coaching. More astonishing is that 99% of surveyed employers who offer a coaching program said that they see coaching as having a positive or very positive impact across their business.
But what about this idea of coaching improving retention? I’ve seen it first-hand at Pinion Global, a top Public Accounting and Advisory firm. Pinion first implemented an internal Talent Advisor/coaching program about eight years ago when their unplanned turnover was at its highest level. Today, their unplanned turnover is at its lowest levels. Much of this improved retention is due to the internal career coaches (Talent Advisors) who work with employees every day to help them find more workplace satisfaction.
There are many positive outcomes from coaching reported from businesses of all sizes that offer internal career coaching to their employees. These results include less employee burnout, more employee satisfaction, improved employee performance and more. But in this continually tightening labor market, employee retention might be the most important outcome yet.
